Who can register a .fr domain?
A person who lives, or an organisation whose registered office or main establishment is, in a European Union member state, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland. The holder must stay reachable by phone and email.
What happens when a .fr domain expires?
After expiry it can be restored for 29 days, for the renewal plus a restore fee. After that, the .fr name is deleted and anyone can register it. We email the owner 30 and 7 days before expiry, and the domain can be renewed from the dashboard or by an agent at any time before.
Can I transfer a .fr domain to another registrar?
Yes. Get its transfer code from the dashboard or with the get_auth_code tool, and give it to the new registrar. When an agent asks for the code, the owner confirms it from an email and sees the code on that page; the agent never gets it. Where the registry has a transfer lock, unlock the domain first.
How are disputes over a .fr name settled?
